Her Master's thesis is published in the American Journal of Physiology. After a 10-month term of volunteering for the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) in Paraguay, South America, Tracy's interests shifted towards the rules and regulation of public health policies and accordingly towards the study of law in general. Tracy graduated from the Faculty of Law at Dalhousie University, where she completed a specialization in Health Law and Policy. At Dalhousie Tracy was an active member of the Health Law Society, contributed to the Association of Women & the Law, and participated in the Dalhousie Mentoring Program. After summering at Beard, Winter LLP in 2009, Roman is eager to return for articling. The firm's welcoming and easy going atmosphere made returning an easy decision. During his summer term at the firm Roman had the opportunity to work on several interesting files including: assisting to draft a factum to the Court of Appeal and conducting a Small Claims Court trial. He looks forward to continuing to develop his skills in both litigation and corporate matters.
Roman obtained a B.A. (Hons.) with distinction in history from the University of Toronto in 2007 and obtained a J.D. from the University of Windsor in 2010. During law school Roman volunteered at Windsor's Community Legal Aid Clinic both as a caseworker and litigator and gained valuable experience in both alternate dispute resolution and trial advocacy. He also sat on both the Admissions Committee and Revenue Generation Committee.
During the course of his studies Roman coached football at the rep level for seven years including becoming the youngest head coach in Ontario. He continues to be involved in minor football in Ontario.
In his spare time Roman enjoys watching and playing just about any type of sport, travelling, and spending time with friends.
Charu graduated from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom with a BA Honours in Law and Business Studies and was called to the Roll of Solicitors in 2008. During her two year articling term in a downtown law firm in London, Charu rotated through the Corporate and Litigation practice areas and also had the opportunity to work on projects involving Shari'ah principles.
After spending 6 months traveling through Africa and Southeast Asia, Charu moved to Toronto in January 2009. While completing her accreditation exams, Charu interned with Advocates for Injured Workers, a legal clinic assisting injured workers navigate their claims through the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. This gave her a great opportunity to gain first hand legal experience in Canada whilst further developing her litigation skills.
Outside of work, Charu enjoys traveling, reading and discovering the next best place to eat in town.
The articling experience at Beard Winter LLP reflects our pragmatic business philosophy. The emphasis is on providing students with practical experience and training, in a "hands on" fashion, under our guidance. Students will be involved in various business transactions, at all stages. They will learn to prepare all types of litigation documents and attend in court for motions, small claims and minor criminal matters. They will be exposed to various "non-traditional" dispute resolution processes, such as mediations and arbitrations. They will also assist the firm's lawyers with larger and more complex files. The students' work will range from assisting in a client matter to having exclusive responsibility, with supervision, for carriage of a file. Recruiting has commenced for the 2010-2011 Articling year. We are happy to provide on-line access to our updated Student Handbook for the most current information about Beard Winter LLP's Articling Program. You can obtain your copy below.

Seminars are generally offered in the following areas: An Orientation Day will be held in July of each year, at the time of the transition between outgoing and incoming articling students. The purpose of the day is to provide incoming students with an overview of basic office systems and procedures, an introduction to the lawyers and staff, and also seminars designed to address the "basics" of appearing in court. Students have been designated principals who also act as mentors. These mentors will act as advisors and confidantes and will be available at all times to provide encouragement, advice and guidance as required.
