Practicing exclusively in the area of family law, Shmuel Stern advises and represents clients in married and common law relationships that end by separation or death, including divorce, parenting, child support, spousal support, property division, matrimonial home and related estate issues.
Shmuel also drafts and provides advice for marriage contracts and cohabitation agreements, provides independent legal advice (ILA) for separation agreements reached through mediation, pursues or defends Motions to Change existing agreements or court orders, and provides letters of recognition of a foreign divorce for the purpose of remarriage in Ontario.
In addition to his regular family law practice, Shmuel provides advice to institutions, businesses and professionals confronted with the additional needs and demands of divorced or separated clients.
Shmuel is on the roster of speakers for the court-mandated Toronto Family Law Information Sessions. He currently sits on the Child and Youth Law Executive of the Ontario Bar Association, previously chairing various committees on the Family Law Section Executive, including the Technology Subcommittee. Shmuel has presented at various legal and judicial conferences, and at Toronto Public Libraries through the OBA Speakers Bureau.
