Written by: Andrea Tratnik

Beard Winter LLP estate and trust planning lawyer Andrea Tratnik has authored an article in the June 2019 edition of Thomson Reuters’ Taxes & Wealth Management newsletter.

In her article, Continuing Powers of Attorney for Property: Tax Considerations for Small Business Owners, Andrea says that: ““A lot of factors are to be considered when making a Power of Attorney — and corporate tax implications should be one of them for those grantors who own shares of private companies and benefit from certain provisions of the Income Tax Act (the “Act”) by not being associated with another company, like the small business deduction.”

Taxes & Wealth Management examines a wide range of subjects that impact private companies and high net worth individuals such as tax, estate and trust matters and other topics that relate to wealth management.

Andrea Tratnik is an associate in the firm’s Trusts and Estates Group and Corporate Group. Acting for domestic and international clients, namely mid-market privately-held companies, small businesses, and a wide range of individuals, her practice focuses on estate and trust planning and administration.
